Air - One of the most important terms in wakeboarding. This simply means how much ‘air’ you get between you and the water or how high you go. When someone says you got ‘big air’ it means that you really went high, which is considered good!

Bail - This is what we call falling off your wakeboard.

Bindings - This is the rubber boots which are attached to the board that keeps you on the board.

Bone Out - This is one of the wakeboarding tricks terms that means you have straightened out your leg. When you ‘bone out grab,’ you straighten your leg while you are grabbing.

Digger - This is something you want to avoid, as it means a ‘bad wreck.’

Invert - When a rider flips upside down in the air, that’s an invert.

Nose - The tip of the board that’s closest to the wakeboarding boat is the nose.

Set - When you do a set, that means you completed your turn on the wakeboard. Each player’s turn is a set.

That’s not all the wakeboarding terms there are, but these are the very basics to get you started. Now when you discuss wakeboarding with an expert wakeboarder, you’ll have an easier time understanding them! You may be a complete novice when it comes to wakeboarding, but you don’t have to sound like one!

Old Italian violins are generally revered as the “holy grail” in the violin world. This is due, in part at least, to the early Italian luthiers who forever forged a place in the instrument’s history with their master craftsmanship and devotion to this lovely instrument. In this article, we’ll take a brief look at three of the highly regarded, early Italian violin makers from the Cremona school.

Nicolo Amati, born 1596, was the son and disciple of Girolamo Amati. He is considered the finest luthier of his family. Among the many beloved attributes of Amati’s violins is their brilliant varnish in shades from yellow-brown to a golden red. Equally captivating is their tone which is penetrating and sweet but, because of the higher arching, lack the sheer power of a Stradivari. The length of his violins were mostly 14 inches or slightly under. Many of his family were lost to the plague, but Nicolo survived to become the master of the greatest violin maker who ever lived, Antonio Stradivari. Nicolo Amati died in 1684.

Antonio Stradivari was making violins up to the year of his death in 1737. He often inscribed his age on the labels, with one displaying “d’Anni 93″ as a reference to his age of 93 at the time of the violin’s creation. Born in 1644, Stradivari was described as a tall, lean man wearing a white wool cap with leather apron. This discription was given by the violin virtuoso, Polledro. Stradivari violins show evidence of being a pupil of Nicolo Amati. It is alleged that Amanti began to teach him at 11 years old.

Carlo Bergonzi, born 1676, worked in the workshop of Antonio Stradivari (in whose house he lived after 1746). It is said that he was the favorite pupil of Stradivari. Bergonzi’s violins have a magnificent, brilliant tone capable of reaching the corners of the largest concert hall and are well-liked as concert instruments. Bergonzi inherited all the working materials of Stradivari in 1742. Bergonzi died in 1747.

The Cremona school of violin making is highly esteem in the violin world today. The love of the violin demonstrated by these three Italian luthiers is largely responsible for the strongly preferred status of the school. Their workmanship has stood the test of time.

If you want to extend the life of your tree and encourage it to grow better fruit, you have to prune it. Pruning fruit trees is the thing to do, because that allows sunlight to reach all areas of the tree. Swearing that I wouldn’t call someone to do the job for me, I armed myself with my best sewing scissors and a ladder. I succeeded in opening the ladder and pinching my thumb in about 30 minutes. Then I climbed up this thing and had an idea of what Jack felt like when he climbed the beanstalk.

When I reached the first limb, I realized I knew nothing about pruning fruit trees but I figured it couldn’t be that hard. I realized my scissors weren’t going to do the job after I tried cutting a smaller limb from the tree. That’s when I pulled out my husband’s chain saw.

It had to be more effective than scissors, after all. Except I didn’t anticipate how loud it would be! It startled me. I lost my footing and fell off the ladder, not before throwing the chain saw on the ground. Fortunately, the lawn is soft. I went back up the ladder with the chain saw (not before cursing the noisy thing) and started again. I was ready this time.

Once again, I tried cutting that smaller limb. Did you know that chain saws are very sharp? I accidentally took out six limbs and went halfway through another one. Oh man, this really ticked me off. My precious tree! 1/4th of it was on the ground. But I wasn’t about to give up, not even after one of the ravaged limbs struck my forehead and left a big scratch.

This time I got out the hedge shears and climbed up the tree itself. How hard can pruning fruit trees possibly be? As I was going up, I kicked over the ladder by accident.

My head was bleeding, there was dirt stuck to my butt, and now I was stuck in that bleeping fruit tree. I was boiling mad by the time my husband found me. I walked back to the house as my husband laughed, but as I did I gave that tree a withering look and muttering, “Until next year!”

The original German luthiers crafted some of the most popular antique violins. Jacob Stainer, Matthias and Sebastion Klotz and Leopold Widhalm are a few of the more famous German violin craftsmen. The contributions of three of these masters to the world of music is the topic of this article.

The man who is most often considered the greatest of all the German violin makers was Jacob Stainer who was born in 1621. It is very likely that Stainer worked with someone from the Amati violin family, because the varnish he used on his violins was very similar to that used by the Amatis. Stainer was able to achieve a fantastic tone in his violins, probably helped by the fact that he was a competent violinist in his own right. Unfortunately, in 1669 Stainer was arrested for heresy which he would not refute. After spending time in jail, he found his fortunes gone and his family impoverished. Unable to raise himself from this situation, Stainer developed mental difficulties and died in 1683.

The violin making was founded in Mittenwald by Matthias Klotz, who was born in 1656. He was largely influenced by Stainer. The ground on his violins has turned a dark color and the varnish is a yellow color. He expired in 1743 at the age of 87. The Klotz had another finest maker of violin in Mittenwald in the form of Sebastian Klotz (1696-1768). His violins were patterned by his son, Joseph Klotz.

Leopold came into the world in Germany a bit after the turn of the eighteenth century. Many people think that he was the most talented violin artisan of the period. The wood, combined with the stain and shape made the instrument unique. He left us at just a bit more than 50 years of age.

All of the instruments created by the German masters of the era go for a tidy sum. If you are looking for an instrument and find one available in your price range, snap it up! You will not be disappointed with the tone or construction. Further, as long as you take care of the instrument, it will surely increase in value over the years.

The great European riding masters of that period developed a sequential training system that has changed little since then and classical dressage is still considered the basis of trained modern dressage. Due to the formality of dressage, tack is usually black leather, although dark brown is seen from time to time. Tantrum to Blind - A totally wicked-cool trick. If you’ve never seen this one completed, you should. While facing forward, the rider turns diagonally as he or she goes to hit a small wave. When he or she hits the wave, they flip up in the air, do a twisting flip, and then land! It is truly amazing.

A Front Flip - A lot of wakeboarding tricks are pretty, but this one is especially so. The rider goes high up into the air after hitting a wave. While they are in the air, they perform a flip that sort of looks like a cartwheel, before coming back down to a hard landing. This is definitely one of the coolest tricks in existence.

The Elephant - This is a great invert trick, where the rider flips up into the air, does a great flip to the side, and comes back down to a hard landing. If you pull it off right, this one looks fantastic.

There are many other types of wakeboarding tricks that are amazing, however, these are among the most difficult to perform. They remain among the most superb and fancy tricks in existence.

The thing is, you have to have a lot of skill to excel in a demanding sport like wakeboarding. Kudos to the guys who can do it!
