Project Management Training: Innovative And Engaging Initiatives

A project is any task with a fixed beginning and a definite end, and in today’s world, most work is done using this methodology. It is essential that we understand projects and the management tools and techniques necessary to meet project objectives. Project management training is more than just restricted training in the narrow fields of technology or management, but instead may incorporate all these fields. Project management training therefore requires training across multiple domains.

Consider a software development project, which starts only after a good reason is provided. For this to happen, the desired outcome must be the same as the expected results of the project. As such, project planning begins with understanding the requirements. In this case, the requirements are set by the business analyst handling that client or relationship and must be tested using cases. Many types of requirements analysis software are available for sale. The next phase of project management begins only after all the requirements have been decided upon and written down.

Good projects utilize their resources to the maximum as all resources are cost centers as well. Thus project management involves management of all these resources and normally uses time lines for managing these resources. Project managers often use project management template which are designed in worksheet software applications to meet the project’s goals. Therefore, hands-on training in worksheet processing software becomes an essential part of project management training.

Two way communication plays an important part in project throughout it’s entire life. Managers find the feedback loop a great boon to understand the present status of the project. All future plans depend on the present status of the project. Hence a hands on training in proper use of communication tools in project management will be a huge advantage. This training includes much more than just mail software training. One must stress on the importance of timely checks throughout the duration of the project.

Projects also involve human capital. Resource allocation deals with allocation of resources capable of doing tasks in a logical manner in order that the project objectives are met. Training in project management must include sessions on human organizational behavior, costing and human resource management. Such training must also include sessions on quality, value engineering, and theory of constraints. These theories are not to be just read, but imbibed as a philosophy in every project. Therefore the training in project management must include tasks which involve application of the key take-aways from the sessions.

Fast changing technology has enabled trainers to use advanced and specially designed computer games which illustrate the project management concepts to trainees. These computer games have a focused cause which is to train the trainees in using project management technology in a systematic and focused way. The results and the success of such games can be gauged to a certain extent by using course assessments. Hence it can be concluded that in order to provide an all round know how of project management technology it is necessary to train the trainees with the traditional project management philosophies and also get them acquainted with the latest technology.

Since always, a deadline is attached to a project; it requires proper planning to complete the project effectively in time. In order to meet the project’s objectives, the project methodology and project management tools must be understood effectively. A project entails allocation of resources and these have to be utilized well. Therefore project management training is essential. Communication is very important during the life of the project. This helps in effectively managing the project and so relevant training should be provided. Specially designed computer games are being used to teach project management concepts. Such games use project management technology.
